Maintaining Productivity Can Be Difficulty
One of the challenges many people experience working from home is maintaining a high level of productivity day in and day out over an extended period of time.
This is understandable.
After all, many people experience their work and home life bleeding into one amorphous period of time that’s hard to keep straight. This can really cut into the effectiveness of the remote worker; to say nothing about negatively impacting time with their family.
Thus, people who work from home need to identify methods to maximize their focus and increase their efficiency in order to minimize wasting time. Below are three option I’ve found to be valuable.
Meditating
For some people this might entail meditating at the beginning of the day or for a short period of time prior to starting a challenging task. This is something I’ve found to be very beneficial. In fact, I’ve become a big fan of Headspace to assist with my meditating needs. The melodic sound of the “Male Voice” works great to prepare me for the day or prior to a stressful task or meeting.
Walking
Other people gain benefits by taking breaks to walk around their neighborhood. This is especially good if you’ve been sitting for an extended period of time and find the drowsiness is starting to overtake your body.
Personally, I find walking and talking with another person has led to many breakthroughs that wouldn’t have occurred if I tried to solve them on my own. Multiple perspectives when tackling a challenging topic is always a good thing.
Analog Timer
Another method I’ve found to increase productivity is using a visual analog timer (see image above). In fact, I’m using it now while writing this post.
This allows me to select a period of time, let’s say 25 minutes, where I will focus all my attention on completing a task. The disappearing red disk allows me to quickly see how much time has elapsed without breaking my concentration on the task at hand. Once the 25 minutes has elapsed, I give myself a 5-minute break to rest and regroup before pushing forward with another period of focused effort.
I’ve found this can work wonders for pushing past periods of procrastination and breaking through mental roadblocks.
Give it a try; you might find that it greatly enhances your productivity and satisfaction on that next challenging topic you’ve been avoiding.
